Beschrijving

Beschrijving Fungal parasitism of an egg mass of Meloidogyne incognita, the root-knot nematode. This fungus occurs naturally in soils in the Manoa valley in Honolulu, Hawaii. Such fungal pathogens of nematodes typically produce chitinase, the enzyme that degrades the chitin that comprises the nematode egg shells. The fungus colonizes and kills the eggs rapidly, here the mycelial masses and strands were produced in less than 24 hours at 23 C. The plant host of Meloidogyne incognita in this case is tomato, 'Orange Pixie.'
